The iPhone X (pronounced "ten" by Apple, "ex" by people with good taste), however, carries a very hefty pricetag, especially in Europe and the United Kingdom - the base 64GB model is $999 in the USA, and a staggering €1159 in Europe (and an equally staggering £999 in the UK).
As with past year, the display is a 5.5in AMOLED unit and the resolution remains resolutely Full HD. All the swipe-based interactions have been tried by other phone companies before, with varying degrees of success. It's also the first OLED display that is, in Phil Schiller's words, "the first OLED display great enough to be in an iPhone".
In terms of display, Apple and Samsung take quite opposing directions. "When we can overcome some problems for sure, we will launch the product", noted Koh.
The Infinity Display this time around is a 6.3-inch screen, and it's as good as the one found on the Galaxy S8. As has already been widely reported, the Note 8 comes with a standard wide 12-megapixel lens with f/1.7 aperture and a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. The ultra-premium iPhone X, plus sly price increases Apple made to the less-fancy new iPhones, should help the company get there.
"With no strong player in the Android ecosystem in the super-premium segment, it's all clear space for Samsung where Note 8 fits in".
The company, however, still struggles in the Chinese market dominated by local players such as Huawei, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi as well as ongoing geopolitical tension between Korea and China over the deployment of the USA -led Terminal High Altitude Area Defense antimissile system.
Coming to the camera department, the handset features 12MP+12MP dual camera at the back. And that has a lot to do with the incorporation of the dual edged design in the edge to edge display.
The two new phones will feature glass on the front and rear of the device for the first time, which has been specially sealed to make the 8 and 8 Plus dust and water resistant.
But as striking as the new phones look, the end of the bezel isn't a radical revolution in the history of smartphones.
Again, this is an impressive feature for Apple to include, but the Samsung S8 has an AMOLED panel, which many believe is a step forward in Organic Light Emitting Diode technology. This means that the phablet will differ from its iPhone X cousin, which will provide a wraparound display, and is said to be slightly smaller in dimensions than the iPhone 8 Plus.
