South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff says the projectile was sacked Sunday from an area around Pukchang.

North Korea has fired an unidentified projectile from an area near its capital, Pyongyang, South Korea said.

North Korea is barred from nuclear and ballistic missile testing under numerous UN Security Council resolutions, a prohibition it has routinely ignored.

North Korea has attempted at least 10 missile launches on seven occasions since January.

North Korea has fired another ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, where it apparently landed, according to numerous media reports. He did not make a public statement after the meeting.

Last Sunday, the North tested-fired an intermediate range missile that flew further and higher than those previously tested.

Fleitz told CNBC that last week's test showed that Pyongyang is developing great proficiency with re-entry technology that is needed for longer-range missiles carrying nuclear warheads, which must withstand extreme temperatures and other stressors, such as the atmospheric re-entry of an ICBM.

The missile tested in February was a Pukguksong-2, a medium long-range ballistic missile, officials said.

Under the watch of third-generation dictator Kim Jong Un, North Korea has been aggressively pursuing a decades-long goal of putting a nuclear warhead on an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the USA mainland.

Adults, students and children cheered at a convoy of buses carrying the scientists to Mansu Hill, where they offered flowers to the statues of former leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il before being greeted by the vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Ri Man-gon, Efe news reported.

Such tests present a hard challenge to new South Korean President Moon Jae-in, a liberal who took office on May 10 and has expressed a desire to reach out to North Korea.

"Our government is open to the possibility of dialogue with North Korea, but will also maintain a stance of firmly responding to provocations", the ministry said.
