Unlike the convertible Surface Book and Surface Pro, the new Surface Laptop sticks to a traditional clamshell notebook design. It can run for 14.5 hours on its batteries, thanks to the presence of the latest Intel core i5 and i7 processors on board.
This one, specifically, could potentially give Google's cheap Chromebooks - which have had recent success in the education market, at Microsoft's and Apple's expense - a run for their money. Should Microsoft be promoting the Surface Laptop as a student device, or going directly after Apple and MacBook Pro? Microsoft now looks at the education sector and newly introduced cloud based Operating System, the Windows 10 S OS as a way out. While we are aware of Microsoft's struggle over the past few years to make a tablet as good as Apple's iPad, we also know that not everyone wants a computer that can double up as a tablet. "So it seems Microsoft is trying to steal some of the glitter of the old rival", she added.
The operating system has been designed for use in educational environments and includes many features suited to students - such as the free inclusion of a one-year Microsoft Office 365 subscription and Intune for Education.
Microsoft has decided to make a streamlined version of Windows 10 to cater mainly to the education sector.
As outlined in the Surface Laptop's specs, those who "prefer to run non-Store apps [can] switch to Windows 10 Pro for free until Dec 31, 2017". As such, it will come with several Windows 10 Pro features such as Mobile Device Management, Azure Active Directory, and business editions of Windows Store and Windows Update.
In a blog post announcing the Surface Laptop, though, Microsoft urged people to stick with 10 S. The anodized metal case is available in four colors, platinum, burgundy, cobalt blue and graphite gold.
As for the specifications, the new Surface Laptop a 13.5-inch PixelSense display and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

At that price, Microsoft may be able to compete more directly with Google's affordable Chromebooks. Even if the Surface laptop does not see volume sales, the plan to flood the market with $189 devices could have its merits.
