WhatsApp text Status is back on Android, just update the app

The new Status feature got mixed reactions from its users globally, with many disappointed with the fact they wouldn't be able to update text Status anymore.

The return of WhatsApp's Text Status was noted by Gadgets 360 and is available for Android v2.17.107.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp recently updated its chatting platform with a new Status feature that allows users to upload videos and photos as their statuses. "We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we've integrated this feature into the About section in profile settings", a WhatsApp spokesperson had said. Unfortunately, there's no way (yet) to disable this WhatsApp feature completely. However, in the latest beta, you can search for GIFs, choose one, and send it to a WhatsApp thread using Gboard just like the way you did it with the in-app keyboard. The good news for users is that you have a choice, instead of having to make do with the "whimsical" new feature that a lot of apps are introducing now to imitate Snapchat Stories. You will find the feature under both the phone number tab and the About tab. One of the other additions that are coming right now is the Add Attachment icon is moving.

Beyond that, if you have wanted to move around your profile picture, you can now do that as well. So don't be surprised if you are unable to see it yet. Another minor change in the new WhatsApp update, but it is still something that is cool to have as a feature.

For now the feature is only available to Android users.

If you wish to try this feature immediately, you must sign up for the beta program, and be on the latest beta version 2.17.110.

Some people preferred to keep informative status about what they were up to or what was in their minds that probably would go for a longer duration but the new feature only allows for a status to go for a day only, that is 24 hours. Once you become a beta tester, you'll get updates even before they are rolled out for everyone.
