Indianapolis also reaches the West Coast through a nonstop flight to San Francisco via United Airlines.
Southwest Airlines on Thursday said it will offer nonstop daily flights between Indianapolis and San Diego from June 4 to August 14.
This June, Southwest Airlines will begin offering nonstop service from Indianapolis to both California and NY. He said business and leisure travel from Indianapolis to San Diego presents a tremendous opportunity.
"Southwest has taken the lead in flight capacity in Indianapolis", said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority.
Before the San Diego announcement, the only other existing flight to southern California was from Indy to Los Angeles International Airport. The airline offered 70 percent more seats out of Indianapolis in 2016 than in 2014.
The new flight is the second nonstop from Indy to southern California.
Additionally, Southwest says it will also add a new nonstop flight between Indianapolis and NY via Newark International Airport. There will also be seasonal direct flights between San Diego and Newark, and San Deigo and Spokane.
June 4 will also mark the start of new nonstop flights between Indianapolis and NY via Newark.
