IPFW beats Mississippi Valley State 79-54

The game will be broadcast at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN3 (streaming) with Jordan Bernfield and Homer Drew on the call.

It was college basketball's version of a flawless storm: a road game, a star too sick to play and a foe out to make a name for itself. IN will also face No. 5 North Carolina on Wednesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, then host SIU Edwardsville on Friday and Southeast Missouri State next Sunday.

The good news for No. 3 Indiana: It won't play another true road game again until its fourth game of the Big 10 Conference schedule on January 10 against Maryland. Beginning Sunday, IU will play the next 12 games in state, including 10 of those in Bloomington.

It will be the first of four games in eight days for Indiana. IU will face Butler on December 17 and Louisville on New Year's Eve. The Delta Devils don't play a home game until January 7.

· On floor leadership and communication: While I noted in Wednesday's podcast that improved communication against an opponent like Mississippi Valley State shouldn't be studied too closely, in still needs to exhibit some type of progress. The Hoosiers are going to be able to control the pace against Mississippi Valley State, a completely overmatched opponent. Currently, they are 0-7 after losing to Fort Wayne as part of the Indiana Classic on Saturday, 79-54. Both teams also played UMass Lowell, Liberty and Fort Wayne as part of the four-game event. "I have to give Coach Crean credit because he did something that a lot of big schools won't do any more — play a mid-major team on the road". They also lost at Northwestern 94-63 and at Michigan State 100-53. "They passed the ball faster and better than we did". IN center Thomas Bryant, who was one of the few Hoosiers who showed up at Fort Wayne with 18 points and 12 rebounds, will have a major size and talent advantage in the lane.

"They were a good team, and they were well coached, " Bryant said.

The noticeable thing in Hoosiers game was that point guard, Blackman, is struggling with his game. Last season, IN did not have a streak of two losses consecutively the entire season. "All you can do is grow from losses".

Crean mentioned players should reflect on Tuesday's loss at Memorial Coliseum to learn some lessons that may help them in the future. "We got outworked over 45 minutes". I've got to do a better job all the way across the board.

IN had two games early in the season in which it scored more than 100 points - including against then-No. 3 Kansas in overtime.

For a team with such 3-point touch (40.8 percent), IU has endured oddly subpar foul shooting (68 percent) thus far.

Bryant said it was some fundamental issues.

"If we make our free throws, it's a different result", Crean said. "And I thought communication was a big key that we need to work on, too". We'll build on it because these guys are fragile because of our age.
