Gingrich tells Trump not to back off Clinton

- Two weeks after the Presidential Election, Hillary Clinton's lead in the popular vote continues to grow, sitting today at more than two million ballots.

Clinton beat Trump in California by about 2.5 million votes. She will become the fifth presidential candidate in USA history, and the second in the last 16 years, to win the popular vote but lose the election because of the country's two-century-old, constitutionally mandated Electoral College system of picking its presidents.

If we want a truly democratic political system, a giant first step in that direction would be to abolish the Electoral College and simply have Americans vote directly for president. Speaking about the Americans' reaction after Trump's win, he said, "It was not the Democrats nor Hillary neither the common people, but Republicans who were surprised at Trump's victory".

If they can succeed in denying Trump the 270 electoral votes needed to win, the decision would then go to the House of Representatives, where delegations of representatives from each state would decide whom to support. Each state adopting the Compact pledges to instruct its electors to vote for the victor of the national popular vote-which is to say, the victor.

The elimination of the electoral college would demand that future presidential candidates perform strongly nationwide, while removing the focus on swing states as election-determining battlegrounds.

Clinton's Electoral College loss, but popular vote win, marks the second time such a split has happened in modern history. Plus, Trump's lead in the state of MI is so small that the results there are still technically undecided.

You see, my son is moving from the Seattle area to near Albany, N.Y. Washington State has 12 electoral votes, while NY has 29 - equal to Florida's strength.

"If it gets into the House, the controversy and the uncertainty that would immediately blow up into a political firestorm in the USA would cause enough people - my hope is - to look at the whole concept of the electoral college", another elector said.

When asked how supporters would respond if he decided against an investigation, Trump answered, "I don't think they will be disappointed". The group is also encouraging fellow Democrats to cast their ballots against Clinton and instead vote for Sanders or some other protest candidate. "The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately". We had this discussion just two presidents ago, when Al Gore got more votes but lost the electoral count - thanks to Florida's much-disputed 537-vote margin. If the Trump administration is going to effectively accomplish the President-elect's agenda, he can't be tied up with prosecuting Clinton, Duffy argued. Did Alexander Hamilton Create The Electoral College?
