Tiago's rivals like the Maruti Alto K10 and the Celerio come equipped with an AMT transmission as an option which is sorely missed in the #Fantistaco vehicle.
Close competitor Maruti Celerio is already available with an automated manual transmission, and starting in early or mid-2017, the Tata Tiago will be available with this option.
Although the Tiago AMT was expected to come during this festive season, a latest report of CarandBike says that the launch is delayed to 2017 as Tata is preparing for the launch of the Hexa and it is likely to be followed by the Tiago-based sedan the Kite 5.
The Tata Tiago AMT may get its turn only after the Tata Kite5, to be launched after the Tata Hexa. The auto maker is already familiar with the AMT technology as it has equipped the same in products like Zest and Nano. The good part about the launch of the Tiago AMT as of now is that the company has started putting it through tests on the Indian roads and photographers have also managed to capture it.
The Tiago is available with two engines: 85 PS 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 70 PS 1.2-litre Revotorq diesel.
The Tata Tiago AMT will initially be introduced in the petrol avatar and is also expected to later find its way into the diesel version of the vehicle as well.
The company has for sometime been planning to bring in an Automated Manual Transmission version of the vehicle, which is now expected to be introduced in 2017. The Tata Tiago AMT is expected to be priced in the range of INR 4 lakh to INR 5.25 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).
