Black Friday is now the biggest day in the UK's retail calendar, surpassing Boxing Day and Christmas Eve.

Amazon has revealed plans to extend its Black Friday sale to nearly two weeks as retailers gear up for the biggest shopping period of the year.

Amazon will spread Black Friday sales over nearly two weeks, The Guardian reported earlier this week.

Argos says it expects Black Friday to be a digital day again this year, after its website received around 12 million visits on the day itself in 2015.

Black Friday falls on November 25 and while the deals remain a closely guarded secret, Argos insists there will be some sizable discounts available on a range of technology, toys, consumer electronics and domestic appliances. More than a thousand Amazon Marketplace sellers will also participate in The Black Friday Sale, offering double the number of deals compared to previous year, providing customers with an even larger selection of offers on great gifts for friends and family.

The 12 days of pre-Christmas offers will have thousands of deals for customers and will begin at midnight on Monday, 14 November right up until Friday, 25 November - the official day of the sales bononza.

"In response to positive customer feedback for Black Friday deals, we are introducing The Black Friday Sale - 12 days of fantastic deals on must-have gifts and products, saving our customers millions of pounds", said Doug Gurr, from, Amazon.

While you're browsing Amazon for Christmas gifts ideas ahead of Black Friday, you might want to subscribe to Amazon Prime to get even better deals and faster shipping this Black Friday season. The number of units dispatched through Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), a service where Amazon stores, picks, packs and delivers items, was up by more than 70% year on year. "The most popular deals in 2015 included the 7" Fire Tablet, Fire TV Stick, Fire Kids Edition Tablet, Sony Playstation 4 and Xbox One console bundles, Le Creuset cookware, Paco Rabanne fragrances and Star Wars toys.
