The EP recently sat down with Digital Spy to discuss Elena Gilbert's highly-anticipated comeback in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 after being written off in the season 6 finale by being cursed to be in deep slumber so long as Bonnie (Kat Graham) is alive.
Although she is hoping for the best, Plec also expects the worst by preparing an alternate ending for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 with Elena out of the picture, which she hopes she will not end up using.
It's not so much that he is looking for someone so much as that he is continuing to do Sybil's bidding, and she has him out doing his own version of a manhunt, trying to find answers as to the location of a man she very much wants to try and track down.
Fans are now keeping both their fingers crossed that Dobrev would reconsider and finally resurface on "The Vampire Diaries" before the show bids farewell. "So honestly it becomes a matter of logistics". "That being said, I could do it that way, I just would prefer not to", she revealed. "I'm hoping that's not even going to be an issue". The "The Vampire Diaries" star admitted that Sybil is a "true villain".
Plec shared that at the moment, she is still going on the possibility that Dobrev and Somerhalder would give Elena and Damon one more episode together before the series wraps up for good. But could it be possible that Nina Dobrev's Elena is connected to her character?
In the meantime, Plec is hopeful she doesn't have to choose between the two.
Meanwhile, it may well seem that the feeling is mutual with Somerhalder as it was also mentioned that the actor might feel uneasy working with his former flame, provided that Dobrev agrees to reprise her role as Elena one last time. Next year, the actress is returning to the big screen, with two movies - XXX: Return of Xander Cage that releases on January 20 and Flatliners, which opens on September 29.
And without Dobrev, The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premiered on October 21.
In this episode, Damon's tasked with finding a mysterious artifact, which leads him to Texas and a violent run-in with Peter Maxwell - as well as a surprising revelation.
