Ex-Huskies coach Sarkisian gets job at Alabama

Following Saturday's shellacking of the Trojans by the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide, reports surfaced that Nick Saban could be adding the former USC coach as a special assistant.

"Hopefully it's a statement". He's a big guy.

Right after halftime, Hurts found Stewart alone near the Alabama 40 and the receiver sprinted up the right sideline untouched for a 71-yard touchdown and a 24-3 lead.

Sarkisian, 42, reunites with former colleague and current Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

But the opportunistic Crimson Tide came alive in the second quarter and reeled off 17-unanswered points against No. 20 Southern California.

While Kiffin might be a brilliant offensive mind, Alabama head coach Nick Saban basically treats him like a child - he even joked once that Saban runs his Twitter account so he wouldn't get himself in trouble. Barnett later returned to throw a 45-yard touchdown.

Saban said he still needs to play Hurts and redshirt freshman Blake Barnett, but indicated he may do it a "different way than we did last week". So I'm not speculating on what we're going to do in the future. It means I might do it a little different. "And just the cold, hard truth is we did not play up to ours".

Sarkisian went 12-6 with the Trojans from 2014 to 2015 in his most recent coaching stint, which ended in relatively tragic fashion.

So it's a fair question: Is Alphonse Taylor going to get his spot back as Alabama's starting right guard now that he's served his one-game suspension? No. "And professionally he loves coaching and so we thought it would be a good thing for our organization - look I've known him for a long time and he's a very, very good coach". He is, however, not allowed to have a hands-on coaching role, interacting with players on the football field. "We have to stay consistent and play disciplined ball, because that was a very disciplined team that we played against". A year after losing that Heisman victor (running back Derrick Henry) and one of the most successful graduate transfers ever (quarterback Jacob Coker), the Tide are remaking themselves before our eyes. On Alabama's next possession, Hurts capped a short drive with a 7-yard touchdown run. He finished with nine carries for 138 yards. Hired as the head coach at Washington, Sarkisian led the Huskies to four bowl games in five seasons, compiling a 34-29 record. Both were assistants under Pete Carroll at USC when the Trojans dominated the Pac-10. They go to No. 8 Stanford for their Pac-12 opener on September 17.

KaVontae Turpin started the recovery from the surprising second-quarter deficit with an 81-yard punt return for a TD, sparking the Frogs to their 15th straight win in a home opener.
